Working together as pixels on a digital screen, the United Nations 17 sustainable development goals (SDGs) offer “a blueprint for peace and prosperity for people and the planet, now and into the future” and remind us that addressing sustainability and the challenge of climate change cannot be achieved without understanding the interconnectedness of both the challenges and opportunities.
With a mission to support ACS Athens and the school’s goal to empower global conscious citizens, the Institute of ACS Athens provides students with multi-disciplinary experiences to understand the interconnectivity of sustainability and the skills they will need to navigate this reality.
While the headlines focus on the needed emphasis on renewable sources of energy and decarbonization, the Institute’s engaging offerings bring the conversation of sustainability to students where they are and in a way that speaks to their imagination and interests. Importantly, because addressing sustainability will require all of us to work together, many of the Institute’s offerings, such as the Masterclasses, are available to students that attend ACS Athens, as well as students from other schools.
MASTERCLASSES
Through Masterclasses in the Human Rights program, middle-school and high-school aged students consider the broader prism of human rights, including how key industries, such as fashion and security, navigate and impact sustainability. Expanding the conversation beyond science, creates a connection for students they may not otherwise consider to discover how seemingly disparate areas intertwine to impact people and the planet.
For Middle School Students (ages 11-13)
For High School Students (ages 14-18)

CLUBS AND TEAMS
In the spirit of appealing to student interests to spark learning, the Institute of ACS Athens facilitates a variety of clubs and teams, many of which directly or indirectly encourage students to consider climate change and sustainability, including:
Last, but certainly not least, the Institute of ACS Athens also hosts ACS Athens OPEN, a year-long innovation and entrepreneurial program that challenges students to develop solutions that increase campus sustainability, enhance the learning experience, and/or advance conscious citizenship.
By bringing students a myriad of opportunities and ways to discover the interconnected nature of sustainability, we are working to broaden the impact students are empowered to make – now and in the future.
