The ACS Athens Institute proudly presents the Junior Engineers Program, an exciting after-school initiative tailored for Elementary School and Middle School students. Designed to spark curiosity and passion for engineering and robotics under the STEM umbrella, these hands-on masterclasses provide students with engaging opportunities to explore, build, and innovate.

With over 40 enthusiastic students already enrolled across the program, the excitement continues to grow! Each semester, new projects challenge young minds, fostering creativity, critical thinking, and teamwork—all essential skills for future innovators.

Four Masterclasses Designed for Young Engineers

  1. Lilliputian Engineers (Kindergarten)
    Perfect for our youngest learners, this masterclass introduces the wonders of Science, Technology, and Engineering through playful, story-driven adventures. Each activity invites children to build, create, and explore real-world concepts while solving fun, hands-on challenges.

  2. Build It Engineering (Grades 1-2)
    This masterclass transforms children into curious young scientists, sparking their imagination as they explore the world of simple machines like gears, pulleys, and levers. Through hands-on building and teamwork, children construct creative models, discover how everyday mechanisms work, and solve real-world challenges—thinking and creating like true engineers!

  3. Power & Automation Engineers (Grades 3-5)
    Aimed at upper elementary students, this masterclass deepens their understanding of construction and robotics. Students design interactive models, explore motion and mechanical advantage, and bring creations to life using MIT Scratch 2.0. Through teamwork and computational thinking, young engineers develop problem-solving skills, foster creativity, and engage in a hands-on, rewarding learning experience.

  4. Smart Systems with Python & IoT (Grades 6-8)
    Designed for middle schoolers, this masterclass introduces electronics and physical computing through Python. Students create smart systems using microcontrollers, sensors, and actuators, exploring applications like smart homes and autonomous vehicles. By analyzing data and solving real-world challenges, participants develop programming skills, gain insights into IoT (Internet of Things), and learn how technology can positively impact daily life.
